Op Done

So I had it done on Wednesday, today is Monday 31st of October and I'm feeling sore and itchy and dizzy.
It wasn't a pleasant experience, but I was asleep for the op so didn't know any different. The recovery so far hasn't been to bad.
Considering I was sent home with Paracetamol and Stemetil for the dizziness, paracetamol didn't even touch the pain. So I phoned my ENT on call GP and he said I can take Ibuprofen, then after 2 days that stopped having an effect too, so I was prescribed some Diclofenac. This has been a bit more helpful and combined with the paracetamol and stemetil, it does seem to have a bit more of an effect.

They performed a Revision Mastoidectomy and removal of what my Consultant informed me was a "colossal" Cholestetoma. It really did need to be done.

The main thing annoying me at the moment is the fact that Ive gone and caught some sort of Chesty Cough, which I think has now turned into a Chest Infection. So the constant coughing and bringing up Phlegm is really jarring my head, and causing pain to shoot through my ear after coughing.
Currently waiting for my GP to ring me back in the hope she will prescribe me some antibiotics to get rid of it. Not nice.

I cant wash my hair for at least 4 weeks until I have the packing removed from inside my ear, and I'm not allowed to get behind my ear wet for at least 2 weeks, the joys of ear surgery! :)

Have got plenty of photographs on my phone of before and after the op, so can compare the difference!
Just have to figure out how to get them off my phone onto laptop without a usb lead....as I have no idea where it is....

Op Brought forward

It is now on the 26th of this month. Thank God.

Counting down the days until it, I know it's not going to be a fun recovery. I just have to keep focused on getting through it to Xmas.

Sinusitis

....Sucks.

I have felt awful this week, my face has gone numb, I've felt dizzy, I've felt "slow" with my speech, I've felt spaced out and really not with it.
Its been quite scary, I'm on decongestant tablets for the sinuses and I'm on Stemetil for the dizziness and Ibuprofen for the face ache.

I tried to phone the consultants secretary today to see if i can get my operation brought forward, I cant be like this until November. I cant look after my little girl properly, My Husband cant stay home from work to look after me either, and I don't have the greatest support network down here apart from my In-laws who have been really helpful. But they have their own lives to lead and cant be taking care of us all the time.

The secretary wasn't in today so I will try again on Monday. We are supposed to be going away for the weekend  next week, I hope ive managed to get this under control a bit better by then.

1st Post

I'm starting this blog to record my journey of Ear problems.

I started having Ear infections at the age of 2, I had a Mastoidectomy (http://www.ent-info.nhs.uk/Mastoidectomy.htm) in 1995 at the age of 10, before that I had 6 operations for Grommets (http://www.entuk.org/patient_info/ear/surgery_grommets_html). (They all fell out within a few weeks)

Since the age of 11 I have had continuous operations to "clean out" my ears and get rid of discharge and infections, I have had to go to the ENT clinic every 6 months for a "hoovering out" and more recently I have been going every 2 months. Now thanks to having been finally referred to a decent Consultant, who actually seems to know what he is talking about, i have been given a CT scan and booked in for a Revision Mastoidectomy (http://www.medicdirect.co.uk/operations/default.ihtml?pid=1874&step=4)to) finally tackle the mess that was left behind in 1995.

My operation is due to take place on the 9th of November 2011.

This is my Story..
